All true Christians believe the Bible is the inerrant Words of God as a matter of faith.
Why is that so important?
Doubt means that we are substituting our own reasoning and understanding of the natural world to the things God has down and is written about.
Doubt in God’s Word hobbles us to what we can understand in our limited minds and away from a wonderful revelation of the power of our Creator who not only created us but intently desires to have a relationship with Him and to love Him as He loves us. He loves us so much that He sent His only begotten Son to die in our place and that whosoever believes in Him shall be saved and not perish.
Doubting in Jesus our Lord and especially in His death and resurrection can lead us away from our salvation and into external death.
Doubt was the seed that Satan planted within Eve in order for her to be enticed into eating of the Tree of the knowledge of Good and Evil.
We can read in Genesis of Eve reasoning within herself about the fruit: It was pleasing to the eyes and good to eat to satisfy her fleshly appetite and most importantly, she desired to be like God.
In God’s Word these attributes are known as the lust of the eyes, lust of the flesh and the pride of life. We all have these attributes in us when we are born and we sin when we apply them in our lives in a way that rejects God.
First, lust of the eyes is reckoned to be coveting, and it violates God’s law to have no other God before Him as when you focus your attention and intently desire something to make you happy you are forming a god for yourself.
Lust of the flesh is now known as much more than just desiring food to the extent that we are glutinous. It’s clearly linked in God’s Word to sexual immorality which is the desire of and acts of any kind of sex outside of what God ordained: marriage between one man and one woman.
Lastly, the pride of life which was first expressed by Eve in desiring to be like God, knowing Good and Evil for herself, is the willful decision to reject God’s guidance in determining what is good and evil for us.
Some may say that we can’t understand God’s Word and many of the things we read seem to violate what we understand about physics and reality so are too fantastic to believe they could have happened and to reject predictions about what will happen as no one is known who can show the future.
God tells us in Isaiah 55:8,9
8“For My thoughts are not your thoughts,
Nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord.
9 “For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
So are My ways higher than your ways,
And My thoughts than your thoughts.
God doesn’t expect us to understand how He did the things written or how He knows what will come to pass. We know that the many prophesies He wrote in the Old Testament have come to pass and the biggest one of all is the revelation of the “Seed of the Woman” who would destroy the works of the Serpent.
If you read my post called “The Way Back”, I weave the thread to describe how many things the happened in the Old Testament beginning in Genesis were pointing us to that Seed in types, symbols, foreshadowing and in plain language.
The Apostle Paul, a man of great knowledge of God’s Word and full of the Holy Spirit said this about only knowing only in part now in writing to the Corinthians:
1 Corinthians 13:9,10 and 12
9 For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.
10 But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.
And Jesus answered when His disciples asked about His return:
In Mark 13:32, Jesus had been teaching his disciples about his return and says, “But concerning that day or that hour, no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.”
We are not alone in only knowing so much about God and His plans so let us not doubt what God has revealed to us in His Words but believe that He gave us what we have so that we are capable of believing if we so choose and be saved.
So, let us be patient in believing that our wonderful God is able to do all His pleasure and be content that now we only know in part but when our Lord returns to clothe us with the promised glorified spiritual body, our darkened minds will know all about Him.
AMEN
