Hebrews Chapter One

Why Worship a Man When Angels Are Cooler?

Have you heard someone say they are “Spiritual but not religious.” Hebrews chapter one steps in and says, “Hold on. Let’s talk facts.”

The Verse That Changes Everything

“He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.” (Hebrews 1:3)

Read that again. Slowly. The writer just described Jesus in four short phrases. Each one is a wrecking ball to every watered-down version of who He is.

Jesus Is Not a Cosmic Middleman. He Is God.

Angels deliver messages. Jesus is the message. Angels point to God. Jesus is the exact imprint of God’s nature. Angels obey commands. Jesus speaks the universe into existence and keeps it running with a word.

Think about that. The same voice that said “Let there be light” now says your name. The hands that spun galaxies now hold your life together. He is not a go-between. He is the destination.

We treat worship like an optional add-on. Show up on Sunday if you feel like it. Sing if the song is good. Hebrews says worship is the only logical response to reality.

Imagine meeting the person who invented gravity, oxygen, and your heartbeat. Would you shrug and say, “Cool story”? No. You would fall on your face. That is what the angels do around Jesus (Hebrews 1:6). If created beings get it, why don’t we?

Worship is not emotional manipulation. It is intellectual honesty. When you see Jesus for who He is, anything less than awe is irrational.

Verse fourteen is strong: “Are they not all ministering spirits sent out to serve for the sake of those who are to inherit salvation?”

Angels are not the main characters. You are. Because you are in Christ, the same beings who surround God’s throne now run errands for you. They guard you in traffic. They fight battles you never see. They deliver strength when you are too weak to pray.

This is not because you are impressive. It is because Jesus is. You are family. He is the older brother who already won the victory, and the angels are His (and your) support team.

Replace one “spiritual but not Jesus” habit. Skip the horoscope. Close the tarot app. Open John chapter one instead. Read it out loud for five minutes. Let the real Word speak louder than the knock-offs.

What “lesser” thing have you been tempted to worship instead of Jesus? Drop it in the comments. Let’s encourage each other to fix our eyes on the One who is better.
