Go and Make Disciples
Scripture Focus: Matthew 28:19-20; John 4:4-42
This is a new series of the commands our Lord Jesus Christ gave. I understand this is very limited, and I will get to each of these in greater detail as I move through this adventure. This blog is the fourth of five upcoming messages.
The Great Commission is a call to action: “Go, therefore, and make disciples of all the nations… teaching them to follow all that I commanded you” (Matthew 28:19-20). Jesus doesn’t just save us; He sends us to share His love with the world. But who are we supposed to reach, and what do we say?
In John 4:4-42, the Samaritan woman meets Jesus and can’t help but tell her neighbors, “Come, see a man who told me everything I ever did!” (John 4:29). She shares with her community, her family, friends, and neighbors. We’re called to do the same, starting with those around us. 1 Peter 2:9 declares every believer a priest, qualified to share the gospel.
The Samaritan woman shared her story and Jesus’ story. Your testimony, how Jesus changed your life, combined with the gospel (Jesus’ death and resurrection for our sins) is powerful. It doesn’t require a theology degree, but a heart transformed by Christ. The Great Commission promises that Jesus is with us always (Matthew 28:20), empowering us to go.
Think of one person in your life who needs to hear about Jesus. Pray for an opportunity to share your story or invite them to church. Be bold but kind, trusting the Holy Spirit to work. Like the Samaritan woman, your simple witness can lead others to Christ. Disciples make disciples—start today.
