The Little Seed:
There was once a tiny little seed, maybe the last one in the sowers bag that finally fell out onto the path. It just laid there for awhile in the sun and a bird came along and swallowed it, but the bird fell ill that same day and threw up the little seed and it fell upon rocky ground. It started to grow but wasn’t nourished and it withered, but the root was still alive. Then, along came a storm and washed the rocks and soil along with the little root into a bog full of thorny briars and other nasty weeds. The little root awakened but couldn’t really grow much because the weeds sucked up all the food and light. The little plant languished there for years. Finally, THE Developer came along and with his equipment, cleared out the bog and put it into a great pile which killed all the weeds. Later on, the pile was bought as a great price and was moved to a wonderful place, quiet, restful and fertile. It was spread out onto good soil and turned over and the little root reawakened and began to grow. THE Landowner noticed the struggling little plant and had mercy on it. HE dug it up and put it in a cherished place and watered and tended to it and called it His own. The plant grew into a very large tree and the birds and other animals ate of its fruit and made their homes in it and THE Landowner was very pleased with it.
Our path to salvation is not often easy and straightforward. We do know that nothing is impossible with the Lord and that nothing can take us out of His hand. Many of us might have been that little seed – I was and the place He brought me is here!
We know that without faith, the Holy Spirit can do nothing in our lives and we know for sure that we all start out with a tiny bit of faith (I like to think about it as the little seed in my story) even smaller than (a mustard seed). By God’s Grace though, a seed planted in the Word grows and along with it, faith and trust. We then begin to recognize or have an inkling of the Holy Spirit’s influence in our lives. A little miracle here and another there. Maybe a good thought that comes into our mind without us purposely thinking it. Sometimes we think good things happen by chance or us being in the just the right place at the right time but make no mistake about it, the Holy Spirit is in and with us and He helps our faith to grow and once we recognize He’s there and in us and we begin to listen and act on those thoughts, that’s when our faith grows by leaps and bounds!
